Build#
Install Rust from rustup.rs and accept the MSVC toolchain. Install the Visual Studio C++ Build Tools (Desktop development with C++).
Open a terminal in the NOESIS folder and build the whole workspace:
cargo build --workspace --releaseThe program is written to target\release\noesis-app.exe.
Allow camera and microphone access for desktop apps in Windows Settings → Privacy & security.
Install the system packages:
sudo apt-get install build-essential pkg-config libasound2-dev libudev-dev libdbus-1-dev libclang-dev libxkbcommon-dev rustup update stableBuild the workspace:
cargo build --workspace --releaseThe program is written to target/release/noesis-app. On machines without root access that use a locally unpacked libclang, use the wrapper
./scripts/build-linux.shwith the same arguments ascargo.
Launch#
Start the console from the folder you want NOESIS to work in:
cargo run -p noesis-app --release # or run target/release/noesis-app directly
NOESIS reads and writes noesis-config.json and noesis-profiles.json in the folder it is launched from, and saves sessions to the sessions/ folder there by default. Always launch from the same folder to keep your settings, profiles and recordings together.
The window opens at its last saved size (minimum 1000 × 620) on the page you used last. Hardware discovery runs immediately; the footer reads Ready · N hardware/capability entries when it finishes.
Verify the installation#
Run the automated tests:
cargo test --workspaceRecord and replay a synthetic session without any hardware:
cargo run -p noesis-app --release -- --simulateThe last lines report the replayed session; a line containing
pulse=… bpm: 71.0…confirms a synthetic 72 bpm signal was recovered end to end.Optional checks:
--gui-smokeopens the GUI, cycles the pages and saves screenshots;--visual-smokeshows a short grating stimulus and saves a screenshot. See Command line.
